Vounteer's Viewpoint

"I volunteer with the Advocates for Developmental Disabilities as a parent mentor. We have a son who was diagnosed with ADHD and MR as a young child; we listened to the Doctors and followed what they said. That was not enough for me so I began research on my own. I experimented with foods and how to react to different situations, and it has worked!

I love to volunteer as a parent mentor as I know what other parents have gone through and the frustration that goes along with it. You know your child best, but sometimes you need just a little help or reassurance from someone who has been there. As a volunteer, I am here to assist and help you understand — but most of all I will listen to you!"

Volunteers play an important part in the success of ADD. Have a few spare hours?

Special Events
ADD holds a variety of community events throughout the year, and volunteers are needed to participate on planning committees and to help with set-up and registration at the events. Previous events have included the SIB Shops, Autism Awareness, Special Sitters, and Breakfast with Santa.

Be a Puppeteer with Kool Kids
Help ADD bring its puppet programs to area school children. The Kool Kids puppets present informative and entertaining programs in a child-friendly format. Please call for more information and join us in this rewarding volunteer opportunity today.

Our Annual Festival of Trees
This Festival is our main fundraiser for the year. There are many ways you can volunteer and become a part of this event. We are always looking for volunteers to decorate trees, which are auctioned off the night of the festival, or to donate items to the silent auction. We also use volunteers to help set-up and take down the event.

Parent Mentors
Parent mentors are trained people who have had similar situations or have been trained in areas which families sometimes experience when living with children and adults with disabilities. These Mentors are available by phone or in person to help with parenting matters or situations that parents or caretakers just need a little advise or help with.
